The term transfiction was coined by Alok b. Nandi for "trans"portation into "fiction"al spaces and used in art:tech research projects, from 1999 to 2003: the site transfiction.net is documenting these works. The term "transfiction" was also used as the name of the software engine of Alterface (another name coined by Alok b. Nandi), a spin-off company of UCL, Université de Louvain la Neuve, emerging from these research projects, and which Alok Nandi co-founded.
