About Transfiction

Transfiction is a concept, a system as well as an area for scientific and artistic exploration. Conceived/directed/designed by Alok b. Nandi, it has seen its first development, in a collaboration with UCL TELE Lab, allowing "transportation into fictional spaces" (hence the coined term transfiction) of people in the streets of the city of Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium.

The area of research is known as "Mixed Reality", ranging on a continuum from Augmented Reality to Augmented Virtuality, including telepresence. More and more interdisciplinary teams are involved with projects mixing development between sciences, art, design, technology and communications.

Augmented reality (AR) research aims to develop technologies that allow to mix or overlap computer generated 2D or 3D virtual objects on the real world. Unlike virtual reality that replaces the physical world, AR enhances the physical reality by integrating virtual objects into the physical world which become in a sense an equal part of our natural environment.
Augmented virtuality is the inclusion of real elements into a virtual space, including Telepresence.
